Professor Ki Hyun Yoon received his BSc (1962) in chemistry and MSc (1968) in physical chemistry from Yonsei University in Seoul, Korea and Ph.D. (1975) in ceramic engineering from the University of Missouri-Rolla in U.S.A.. He had experiences of a research associate at the University of Missouri- Rolla in U.S.A. and a senior materials scientist at the Agency of Defense Development in Korea. He joined the Department of Ceramic Engineering at Yonsei University in Seoul, Korea in 1978, became chairman in 1982 and professor in 1983, and director of the Research Institute of Advanced Materials in 1977. He is a fellow of the Korean Academy of Science and Technology (1995), a member of the Asia and Pacific Academy of Materials(1997) and the World Academy of Ceramics (1999), and a fellow of the American Ceramic Society (2007). He received the Yonsei Science Award (1979,1983), the Korean Ceramic Society Award(1980, 2004),the Science Award of the Fine Ceramics Federation of Korea, the Outstanding Faculty Award of Yonsei University (1995,2002,2003,2004), the Science Award of the Samil Foundation (2004) and the Science Award of the Korean Academy of Science and Technology (2007).He was also awarded the Doyak Medal of the Order of the Science and Technology Merit from the Korean Government (2001) and the Changjo Medal (1st class) of the Order of Science and Technology Merit from the Korean Government (2008). He was appointed a visiting research associate professor of the University of California-Berkeley (1981-1982), an invited professor of Sophia University in Japan (1988), a guest professor research participant of the Argonne National Laboratory in USA (1991), a visiting professor of the Indiana University in U.S.A. (1995), the Manchester Materials Centre (1995, 1999, 2001), the Aachen University of Technology (1996) and an honorary professor of the University of Auckland in New Zealand (1996-2000). He has been appointed a Guest Professor of Zhejiang University, China since December 2003.He was a Head of the Basic Science Division (1996-1997), Electronic Division (1998-2002) of the Korean Ceramic Society. He was also Senior Vice President (2002) and President (2003) of the Korean Ceramic Society, and President of the Korean Union of Chemical Science and Technologies Societies (2004). He was a co-chair of the Publication Committee of the 9th International Meeting on Ferroelectricity (IMF9-1997) and a co-guest editor of the Proceedings of the 9th International Meeting on Ferroelectricity, and an organizer of the Dielectric and Piezoelectric Ceramics Symposium of the 3rd International Meeting of the Pacific Rim Ceramics Societies(PacRim3-1998), and the Symposium of the Electroceramics and Sensors of the 4th International Conference on Electronic Materials(IUMRS-ICEM-1998). He has taken an active part in the international electronic ceramics community, as an International Advisory Member of the Symposium K-Electrical, Magnetic and Optical Ceramics Committee of the 10th International Ceramic Congress (CIMTEC2002) in Florence, a member of the International Committee of the Microwave Materials and Their Applications 2002 in York, a member of program committee and an invited speaker of the Symposium E, Electronic and Advanced ceramics, IUMRS-ICA 2003 in Singapore (2003), an organizer and an invited speaker of Microwave Dielectrics for Wireless Communications of PacRim 5 in Nagoya (2003), and an invited speaker of MRS-Symposium B: Materials, Integration and Packaging Issues for High Frequency Devices in Boston (2004). He was a co-chair and an invited speaker of the Microwave Materials and Their Applications (MMA 2004), and a member of the International Advisory Board, an invited speaker of the 3rd Magneto-Electronic International Symposium (2004) in La Rochelle and of the Asian Meeting on Electroceramics (AMEC-4) (2005) in Hangzou, China. He was an organizer and invited speaker of the symposium, Advanced Dielectrics for Wireless Communication of the 105th (2003), 106th (2004) and 107th (2005) Annual Meeting of the American Ceramic Society. He was an International Advisory Member and Invited Speaker of the Symposium K-Electrical, Magnetic and Optical Ceramics Committee of the 11th International Ceramic Congress (CIMTEC2006) in Sicily, Italy. He was also an International Advisory Member and Invited Speaker of MMA2006-Microwave Materials and their Applications in Oulu, Finland. He was an Advisory Board Member of the 5th Asian Meeting on Electroceramics (2006) in Bangkok, Thailand. He is an International Advisory Committee Member and Invited Speaker of the 5th Internatinal Conference on Microwave Materials and Their Applications (2008) in Hangzou, China. Currently he is a member of the International Editorial Board of Ceramics International , Materials Chemistry and Physics, and Research & Review in Electrochemistry. He was a visiting professor of the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, Sweden to teach Functional Ceramics from January 15 to March 15, 2004. And then he was a Distinguished Visiting Professor of the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, Sweden for 2 years from 2005 and a Visiting Professor of the Norwegian University of Science and Technology in Trondheim, Norway in 2007 for teaching and consulting graduate students. Currently Professor Yoon is a visiting Professor of Dresden University of Technology in Dresden, Germany. Professor Yoon has written or co-authored 428 research papers in the refereed journals and contributed to 8 book chapters. He also holds 18 patents both nationally and internationally, including in the USA and UK. He has graduated 36 Ph.D. and 144 M.S. students.
